Overwhelming response to “Maltese Art in the European Parliament” initiativeby Mr Kevin Mizzi The new initiative launched by MEP Simon Busuttil to display Maltese works of art in the European Parliament has received an overwhelming interest from local artists with more than twenty artists expressing an interest to participate. The initiative provides a gateway for artists to exhibit one of their works in Dr Busuttil's office at the European Parliament in Brussels where they can be viewed by various foreign guests and dignitaries who regularly attend meetings in this office. The exhibit is changed once every three months giving other artists the opportunity to participate. The painting is accompanied by a brief write-up as well as booklets provided by the artists. The first painting exhibited under this initiative was submitted by Gozitan artist Mark Sagona and is entitled "That Unconscious Rupture". The painting was previously exhibited as part of the artist's personal exhibition held at the National Museum of Fine Arts in Valletta in November-December 2008 under the title "Diaries of Existence". Mark Sagona is a painter, designer, art historian and lecturer who works and lives in Gozo. He has exhibited widely in Malta and his works are scattered in various collections around the globe. That "Unconscious Rupture", with its strong contrasts, expressionistic brushwork and floating, intense forms, is symptomatic of the artistic frenzy that went into its creation. Maltese artists who wish to participate in this initiative may contact the office of MEP Simon Busuttil on info@sbusuttilmep.eu Share |
